Mathieu Lauffray, born in Paris in 1970, is a renowned comic book artist and author celebrated for his talent and versatility. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, he began his career in 1995 with Le Serment de l'Ambre. He later collaborated with Olivier Vatine on Star Wars covers and worked on various illustration projects for press, role-playing games, and video games, notably with Darkworks.

In 1997, he met filmmaker Christophe Gans, with whom he collaborated on several projects, including the film Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf), where he created designs, storyboards, and the iconic travel journals of the character Fronsac.

Returning to comic books in 2000, he co-created the series Prophet with Xavier Dorison and later worked on the acclaimed series Long John Silver (2006–2013), which redefined the pirate genre. Simultaneously, he contributed to international productions such as Roland Emmerich's 10,000 BC.

In 2017, he reimagined the Valerian universe with Wilfrid Lupano in Shingouzlooz.Inc.

In 2020, Lauffray embarked on a solo project: Raven (published by Dargaud). Following the release of the Long John Silver collected edition in 2023 (Dargaud), he returned to epic adventure storytelling, showcasing his extraordinary talent as both an artist and storyteller. A master of spectacular comic book art!
