Experimental Collaboration Vol. 3

Liorzh invites Melina K

With Experimental Collaboration, Liorzh continues a series of fine art prints based on a simple idea: bringing together two visual worlds, two creative sensibilities, and two distinct ways of building an image.

For this third volume, he invites Melina K, a designer originally from Singapore and now based in Brisbane, Australia. Her work combines photography, experimental typography, textures, and handmade interventions in compositions that feel both structured and organic.

A four-handed artwork

Liorzh first discovered Melina K’s work, also known as Epi to Me, around 2023. He was immediately drawn to her versatility and to the way she brings together photo editing, experimental typography, scans, textures, and interventions created directly with physical materials.

He was also particularly inspired by her approach to layout and by the way she incorporates text into the heart of a poster. Her compositions achieve a distinctive balance between structure and experimentation, precision and spontaneity.

After several conversations, the two artists chose the orchid as the starting point for their collaboration. Melina K’s favourite flower, and a natural echo of Liorzh’s own background in plant studies before moving into design, it became the centre of a composition exploring transformation, adaptation, and memory.

1 + 1 artists: a shared artwork in which the orchid becomes the symbol of an identity able to transform without ever disappearing.

The process

Creative process - Liorzh and Melina K
The artwork developed around the orchid, gradually transformed through the artists’ typographic research, textures, scans, and graphic interventions. Its different stages reveal a process combining digital tools with physical materials, leading to a final balance between botanical forms, composition, and typography.

Why this collaboration?

The choice of the orchid also carries a personal meaning. Born in Singapore, Melina K left her home country to settle in Australia. Although she has adapted to her new environment, the experience still occasionally leads her to reflect on the life and memories she left behind.

Found throughout the world in a remarkable variety of climates and habitats, orchids have developed extraordinary strategies that allow them to adapt and thrive. Their ability to evolve while maintaining their identity echoes Melina K’s own journey and the themes the two artists wished to explore together.

The artwork therefore becomes an evocation of migration, adaptation, memory, and growth. It is both personal and universal: an image in which transformation does not erase one’s origins, but gives them a new form.
