About Stan Manoukian

Born in Paris in 1969 and trained at the Estienne School of Art, Stan Manoukian began his career in comics, film and advertising, working in France and the United States. Drawing inspiration from retro science fiction, monster movies and the writings of Poe, Lovecraft, Mary Shelley and Jules Verne, he has developed a world where fantasy meets an abundance of natural forms.

In 2007, he set himself the challenge of drawing one monster a day for a year. This exploration became the starting point for an extensive bestiary, notably celebrated in his 2019 monograph Zoologia. Following in the tradition of Gustave Doré, Franklin Booth and Bernie Wrightson, his hatching and interplay of light and shadow lend ink and graphite the depth of an engraving. His work has been exhibited in Europe, the United States, Japan and Australia.
