About the artwork

Il déserte tells a story of distance, fascination and filiation: that of a father who set out to confront the myth of the desert island, and a son who, many years later, tries to understand the meaning of that departure.

In 1962, Georges de Caunes left everything behind to reach the island of Eiao, in the Marquesas archipelago. Decades later, Antoine de Caunes revisits this founding absence through a deeply personal, luminous and profoundly novelistic story.

Xavier Coste’s drawing gives this adventure a striking visual power: arid landscapes, solitude, heat and childhood memory come together in a composition that is both elegant and deeply inhabited.

An edition signed by both authors

Each copy is hand-numbered and signed by Xavier Coste and Antoine de Caunes. This double signature accompanies a deliberately short edition, intended for collectors and lovers of contemporary illustration.
