For the 2nd edition of the Tokyo BD Festival, Cyril Pedrosa is one of the festival's special guests and has created the official illustration for the 2026 edition.

An artwork conceived as a true visual bridge between two cultures of sequential art: the great tradition of Franco-Belgian comics and the world of Japanese manga.

Cyril Pedrosa stages a meeting that feels both unexpected and perfectly natural: Spirou and the Marsupilami meet Astro Boy, while two iconic Brussels landmarks, the Atomium and the Grand-Place, rise in the background.

Tokyo BD Festival

Created in 2025, the Tokyo BD Festival is dedicated to European comics and to fostering exchanges between European and Japanese graphic cultures. Its second edition will take place in Tokyo on October 31 and November 1, 2026, at the Lycée Français International de Tokyo.

Artists, publishers, talks, conferences and signing sessions come together to create a bridge between two creative worlds that have long observed and influenced one another: European comics and Japanese manga.

About Cyril Pedrosa

Born in 1972, Cyril Pedrosa studied animation before working at Disney France and later devoting himself fully to comics. This early experience in animation remains visible throughout his work: movement, rhythm, character expression and staging all play a central role in his drawing.

Following his early collaborations with David Chauvel, Pedrosa developed an increasingly personal body of work with books including Trois Ombres, Portugal, Les Équinoxes and L’Âge d’or, co-written with Roxanne Moreil. His work is distinguished by a deeply narrative approach to colour and by his ability to reinvent his visual language from one project to the next.

In 2026, his dialogue with Japan takes on a particularly significant dimension with Nanbanjin, created in collaboration with manga artist Taiyô Matsumoto. His appearance at the Tokyo BD Festival and the creation of its official illustration naturally extend this encounter between two major traditions of comics and graphic storytelling.
